It's Grim Up North!

The Forces Assemble for Knyghte, Pyke and Sworde.

After some frantic re-purposing of a group of Fireforge infantry I painted a couple of years ago and the building and painting of a few more left-over figures, the basic groups for a small game of KP&S have been assembled.

As outlined in my previous post, the opposing forces in this 12th century civil conflict are those of Hugh de Puiset, the grasping and somewhat ungodly Bishop of Durham and members of the local gentry, lead by the veteran of King Henry's Welsh War, Sir Hugo Flambard.

Sir Walter Skelton, a stalwart supporter of the Bishop of Durham.

Mereduth Crak and his band of Welsh archers, a mercenary bunch employed by the Bishop.

The Bishop's retinue spearmen.

More of the retinue spearmen; the sight of the shields bearing the cross brings fear and dread to the local peasant communities.

Jerrard Sibton, one of the captains of Sir Hugo Flambard's forces.

Brother Athelstan, the fierce warrior priest and nemesis of the Bishop of Durham.

Spearmen of Sir Hugo's retinue.

Many of Sir Hugo's retinue are veterans of the King's campaigns in Wales.

A group of Sir Hugo's bowmen.

The locals; poorly armed and lacking experience of battle. Can they stand up to the retinue men and mercenaries of the Bishop?

Plenty more forces are on their way to join the campaign, as the battle to foil the Bishop's plans gets under way. The French mercenaries, sent by the Bishop's nephew, the Comte du Bar-Sur-Seine, will be arriving soon to bolster the ecclesiastical forces.
